“Lebensraum – Vital Space”
24 & 25 May 2025 | Castle of Agios Andreas
In collaboration with Artifactory, the Preveza Theatre Workshop
staged two performances of Thanasis Triaridis’ provocative play “Lebensraum
– Vital Space”, directed by Lili Sakka. The first performance on 24
May was held in the presence of the author, adding further symbolic and
artistic weight to the experience.
The play, a theatrical experiment confronting the Nazi theory of
Lebensraum, left audiences deeply moved. With intense and emotionally charged
performances by Nikos Anatoliotakis and Anda Nika, the audience
experienced a powerful blend of humour and horror, innocence and guilt.
Spectators, positioned as moral witnesses to the “experiment,” were invited to
reflect on history, fascism, and present-day responsibility.
Following the performance on 24 May, a post-show
discussion with the audience took place, attended
by the author. In a warm and meaningful atmosphere, participants actively
engaged, posing questions and expressing thoughts and emotions triggered by the
performance.
These two events, part of the “Visible Past – Paths of Memory”
programme, contributed to the strengthening of collective memory, the promotion
of values such as tolerance and mutual respect, and the activation of
the local community through poetry and theatre.
The project is carried out with the participation of five European
partners: Villa Greppi Consortium (Italy – coordination & scientific
lead), University of Coimbra and Contextos (Portugal), Sapere
Aude (Austria), and the Greek non-profit organization Artifactory.
The scientific committee for Artifactory’s participation includes Elpida
Margariti (economist) and Dimitris Totsos (historian).
