GENERA - Gender Empowerment in Rural Areas

"At the end of December 2019, a group of twenty people from Greece, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands and Catalonia met at Els Caus de Mura Alberg, to attend a training organized by the Food Sovereignty Magazine.
We were all part of groups linked to the defense of the territory, from the movement for food sovereignty and feminism, but we didn't know each other. Some came from Greece, from where they denounce oil extractivism and the impact on their villages; many are part of feminist collectives; several are peasants; others, researchers, some promote participatory guarantee systems (GSP) or seed exchange markets; and there are also those who do a radio program on food sovereignty in Porto.
During a week we generate many meeting and exchange spaces, from where we share experiences, tools, practices and views on the defense of the territory from our places in Europe. We were visited by Ester Casas, Vanesa Freixa, Alba Rojas, Rosa Binimelis and Gustavo Duch to tell us about the recovery of seeds, the generational change in extensive livestock and women farmers, of collective projects of agroecological distribution, activism and academy, and of media.
In addition to knowledge, we also shared songs, personal stories, fears, poems and dances. Faced with the spectacular great forums and congresses, we claim the rebellion of the near, of the everyday, of living together.

ARTIFACTORY is the greek partner of "GENERA" Training Course,co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union' which will take place from the 13th to the 19th of December 2019. The group is composed by 19 participants from Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Spain.
The training course will offer participants a wide range of non-formal educational tools to encourage participatory learning to youth workers about the rural reality of young people (particularly young women) and the opportunities it offers. It will also encourage themeeting and networking between an internationalgroup of youth workers and experts on food sovereignty issues, specially regarding topics such as women and rural development in the fields of production,distribution, activism and academia.
We will be host in Alberg Els Caus de Mura, a cooperative project in the countryside which carries out different activities related to food sovereignity. The place is near the river and sorrounded by beautiful landscapes,near the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt andl'Obac.

We are very happy and excited to take part for the “GENERA” Training Course in Catalonia, from the 13th to 19th of December 2019, organized by Revista Soberania Alimentaria, a magazine of critical thinking, a publication of information, for debate and reflection of everything we know that determines rural life, agricul¬ture and food,.
Our group was composed by 20 participants from Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Spain.
The training course offered us a wide range of non-formal educational tools to encourage participatory learning especially to interested workers about the rural reality of young people (particularly young women) and the opportunities it offers. It also encouraged the meeting and networking between an interna¬tional group of youth workers and experts on food sovereignty issues, especially regarding topics such as women and rural development in the fields of production, distribution, activism and academia. During the program we stayed at "Alberg Caus de Mura", a cooperative enterprise project in Mura village . We enjoyed full program of presentations, discussions, exercises, visits, friendship, tasty food, art and activism..

Women and livestock farming; extensive farming
He explained the role of the Food Sovereignty Magazine in the visibility of the realities of the rural world. He explained the project that will take place during the training course and that will involve the participants.
A livestock woman Vanesa Freixa; escola de pastors in charge of an agroecological livestock farm, she explained the challenges of being an extensive livestock woman and what are the tools she uses to make her way into a strongly masculinized world. Followed by a debate.
Alba Rojas, member of Women and Organic Distribuition– Frescoop Distribution she presented her experience in an alternative agroecological distribution experience and encourage debate between different food marketing formats. Followed by a debate.
We had with us, a woman researcher in the field of rural development, Mm Rosa Binimelis, Catedra d’ Agroecologia and XASACC to present the academy's perspectives on the role of women in rural areas. We also talked about the links between rural feminism and environmentalism. Agroecology movements. Followed by a debate.
We also had work presentations of the groups we represent, and on the last day we presented the results of the week divided into two groups.
