AETOLIAN CONFEDERACY

The Aetolian Confederacy was a states’ federation in Ancient Greece, born in present-day Aetolia in Central-Western Greece. The Confederation was established around 370 B.C., aiming to face the Macedonians and also the Achaia Confederation. Their common interests made the area’s tribes to integrate into the three main parts of the Nation of the Aetolians to get organized from the 5th century B.C. and create the Nation of the Aetolians. The annexation of other areas in progress, led to the expansion of the Confederacy to the Mediterranean. Its organization, democratic congresses and intense economic activity made the Confederacy and important forerunner of the united Europe. A heritage trail with six (6) outdoor display panels in the public space, a 14 pages heritage booklet with a game introduces visitors into the spirit of the Aetolians and their global understanding of the world.
